VIRTUAL EDUCATION
Students that find they cannot undertake a specific VCE subject because of a timetable clash or because we do not offer that subject have three options. All three provide instructional online VCE subjects designed to be delivered to secondary school students using web-based technology. These online courses have been designed to meet all the requirements set by the Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Authority (VCAA). They differ in the way they deliver their programs and the level of support that is offered. Any student wishing to undertake Distance Education in 2023 will need to demonstrate that they have the following skills, that are essential to successful completion of this mode of instruction:
• The ability to work independently of supervision;
• Demonstrated organisational skills ;
• An ability to communicate with staff, tutors and students;
• A reliable computer and internet service.
Students at Baimbridge College will need a score of ‘4’ on Learning Independence from their APPLE (the grading used in Progress Reporting) before being considered for Distance Education.
BMM Virtual Network (recommended method of virtual study @ Baimbridge)
An initiative of Baimbridge College, Murtoa College and Mortlake College that began in 2021 not only to provide senior secondary students in smaller regional centres with a more extensive range of VCE offerings but to do so within the virtual classroom. The biggest advantage of this program is that timetables within each of the schools are aligned, where possible, so that students can be present to receive direct instruction from their teachers.
In 2021, classes were run in Psychology, Legal Studies and History Revolutions at a 3/4 level that would not have been available at all three schools. In 2022 only Biology was shared between Baimbridge and Murtoa. Moving into 2023 we recognise the growing need for this platform, the BMM model incorporates a number of features to ensure students receive the instruction, support and feedback essential to their successful completion of the VCE subject:
• Subjects are delivered via the internet using Google Classrooms or Web-ex;
• Timetables are synchronised between the three schools to enable direct instruction;
• Students receive hard copies of all assessment tasks and resources;
• A number of times each semester BMM teachers will visit the school for face to face classes with the students.
Classes on offer via the BMM in 2023 are yet to be finalised, this will depend on demand from students, should you wish to study via BMM please select VCE OTHER in selections and see Mr deMan to let him know which course you want to study.
