Discovery of Enchanting China
Learning Chinese Language and Culture in 2021 will be exciting at Baimbridge.
Under Cultural Section, we will have Chinese Spring Festival celebration, overnight trip to Melbourne/Adelaide, Dragon Boat Festival – “Making Sticky Rice Dumplings”, Mid-Autumn Festival – “Enjoy the moon”, day trip to Sovereign Hill, Inter-school Kite Day, Sister School Visits, Annual Chinese Cultural week and so much more.
Under Language Section, we will consolidate previous learnings, explore oral practice such as reading Chinese Poem, analyse simple texts such as advertisement or menu, translate short dialogue or postcards, writing diaries and typing Chinese with Sister school buddies.
We are encouraging more students to study Chinese which will give students a sound basis for proceeding with further Chinese Language studies at University as well as providing excellent preparation for employment in areas such as tourism, technology and financial services.
A new VCE course, Chinese Language, Culture and Society, will better meet the needs of students who are not from a Chinese-speaking background.
The new subject mixes study of contemporary Chinese culture and Chinese language development – perfectly suited to students who wish to gain a broad grasp of Chinese culture while continuing their language studies.
Discovery of Enchanting China will prepare students to study VCE Chinese Language, Culture and Society which will be offered in 2023.

Chinese Calligraphy: Art & History
In China, from a very early period, calligraphy has been viewed as the supreme visual art form, was more valued than painting and sculpture, and ranked alongside poetry as a means of self-expression, culture and class.
The art of Calligraphy is a nationwide tourist attraction for Chinese domestic tourists more so than for foreign nationals, however calligraphy is still an important tourist attraction for foreign visitors to continue the appreciation of the art form and experience the real China and Chinese culture.
This subject will be a practical introduction to the art of the Chinese writing brush with students being introduced to the care and use of writing brushes, inkstones, ink blocks and the paper- the four treasures of the study. Students will learn how to write characters with a brush, beginning with simple exercises on brushstrokes and graduating to “standard script” and other styles.
This subject is suited to students learning Chinese at all levels, especially those with an interest in Chinese art and culture.
